The year 2011 marks the 50 year anniversary of JBT AeroTech aircraft deicers when FMC John Bean Division engineers designed an adapted fruit picking vehicle into the industry’s first custom chassis deicer that used hot fluid to melt snow and ice. It established a tradition of purpose-built vehicles which are reliable, safe, user friendly and durable enough to withstand the challenging airport environment.
Today, 50 years and 4,500 deicers later, the Tempest deicer proudly carries on the tradition of the LA-1000, with its custom chassis, featuring a single engine on a swing out power module, hydrostatic drive, articulating jib boom with a 5:1 factor of safety and glycol savings of up to 70% when using AirFirst™ forced air.
