The first nineteen Jetway passenger boarding bridges in the history of commercial aviation were installed at La Guardia Airport in New York in 1959. 

This forward-looking invention changed the history of how airports and airlines would handle ground operations for the upcoming years, and had a tremendous effect on airport planning and expansion around the world.

Since then, Jetway has manufactured and installed more than 7,000 bridges worldwide. 

Jetway (today a part of JBT Corporation as JBT AeroTech) later introduced new integrated solutions such as the solid-state 400Hz converter (1982) and  PC Air unit (1994) along with other optional equipment and integrated systems.
